“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one.”
(Mark 10:6-8)
In the Sacrament of Marriage, spouses publicly announce a covenant in the Lord to be faithful and to support each other in love. These promises (marriage vows) are proclaimed in the company of the worshiping community—the Church—their families and their friends. The sacramental nature of marriage focuses on the two spouses as a living sign of the love that Christ Jesus has for the Church—being willing to love without condition and ready to forgive. In this sacrament, God gives the two spouses the grace that they will need to journey with each other faithfully, to grow in their love, and to demonstrate their love in and through their children. Six months prior to the wedding date, an appointment should be made by the bride and groom with one of our priests to go over wedding procedures and begin preparation for the ceremony.
